Many businesses today are adopting colocation because it offers infrastructure and security of the data center by eliminating the high maintenance cost. By keeping their servers in the colocation facility, businesses take the advantage of having their servers in the cloud while managing their systems physical control. Colocation provides businesses with ample advantages such as 24/7 support, better efficiency, connectivity, enhanced network security and flexibility. These features are driving many organizations to switch towards the adoption of colocation data center facility.
Verizon announced the launch of their Software-Defined Interconnect (SDI) which connects the companies to one of the 115 data centers of Equinix International Business Exchange. Verizon is now offering their corporate customers with direct access between their MPLS and colocation facilities within Equinix Cloud Exchange (ECX) Fabric. Customers with a private IP network can use the Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric (ECX) to provide their network traffic.
By connecting to private IP services with the help of ECX Fabric, companies will restrict a significant digital transformation barrier said Vickie Lonker, Verizon’s vice president of product management and development. He also added that SDI is a best-in-class; software-defined service systems that can provide accurate offering its customers with real-time interactions. Verizon will get a significant advantage by adding up software-defined networking to its MPLS network said the IDC‘s group vice president, Courtney Munroe. He further added that this offer decreases the network and connectivity expenses for enterprise access for colocation information centers while encouraging endurance and development.
This new service offers a quicker, more versatile solution to traditional interconnectivity, requiring expensive construction-outs, lengthy lead times, complicated supply and often truck rolls. Verizon claims that its MPLS network traffic is rising year-over-year at a double-digit pace as colocation facilities are proliferating.
Recently, Equinix announced Network Edge services, which is the company's recent interconnected data center platform installment. Together with Equinix Cloud Fabric, the platform operates in assisting its clients in starting virtual network services. By enabling companies to nearly connect to the private IP facilities of Verizon using the established ECX fabric, SDI makes it simpler and financially feasible to achieve safe colocation and interconnection.
