Automatic dependent surveillance–broadcast (ADS–B) is an advanced surveillance technology that combines an aircraft’s positioning source, aircraft avionics, and ground infrastructure to create an accurate surveillance interface between aircraft and ATC. ADS–B is a performance–based surveillance technology that is more precise than radar and consists of two different services.
ADS-B Out works by broadcasting information about an aircraft's GPS location, altitude, ground speed, and other data to ground stations and other aircraft, once per second. ADS-B Out airspace and equipment requirements are contained and the equipment performance requirements are higher. ADS-B provides operators of properly equipped aircraft with weather and traffic position information delivered directly to the cockpit.
Key Findings of the Study
Advancement in Ads-B Technology is expected to drive the Demand for Global Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast Market
The first-generation ADS-B system was developed in the 1990s and used Mode S transponders to transmit location and identification data to ground-based receivers. This system had limitations, such as limited range and the need for line-of-sight communication, which made it unsuitable for areas with rough terrain or poor weather conditions. However, with the advancement in technology, the ADS-B system has evolved, and the current generation ADS-B system has improved in many ways.
The current generation ADS-B system uses advanced technologies, such as satellite-based navigation, enhanced surveillance, and more efficient data communication to provide better situational awareness to pilots and air traffic controllers. This system uses GPS to provide precise location data, which eliminates the limitations of the first-generation system. Additionally, it uses advanced algorithms to filter out false signals and provide reliable and accurate data. Furthermore, the current generation ADS-B system uses a more efficient communication protocol, which enables more data to be transmitted in less time.

Segment Analysis:
The global automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast market is segmented into five notable segments based on component, platform, operation, application, and end-use.
- On the basis of component, the market is segmented into transponder, receiver, ground receivers, and antenna.
In 2023, the transponder of the component segment is anticipated to dominate the global automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast market
In 2023, the transponder segment is expected to dominate the market with 44.16% market share as the transponder broadcasts the aircraft's position, altitude, and velocity information to other aircraft and ground stations. For the majority of airspace, ADS-B Out transponders are required, and they must adhere to specified technical specifications. To comply with regulations, many aircraft owners are also replacing their outdated transponders with ADS-B Out compliant ones, which may also be a factor in the rising demand for ADS-B transponders thereby, contributing to segment growth.
- On the basis of platform, the market is segmented into commercial aviation’s, business jets, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicle.
In 2023, the commercial aviation’s segment of the platform segment is anticipated to dominate the global automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast market.
In 2023, the commercial aviation’s segment is expected to dominate the market with 42.32% market share as commercial carriers lead business aviation in pursuing operational benefits from receiving and displaying traffic information on their flight decks by automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast. Moreover, most countries across the world are in the process of mandating the installation of ADS-B equipment in commercial airlines for better management of air traffic, which is contributing to segment growth.
- On the basis of operation, the market is segmented into ADS-B out and ADS-B in. In 2023, ADS-B out is expected to dominate the market with a market share of 65.43%.
- On the basis of application, the market is segmented into airborne surveillance and ATC surveillance. In 2023, the airborne surveillance segment is expected to dominate the global automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast market with a 74.37% share.
- On the basis of the end-use, the market is segmented into OEM and aftermarket. In 2023, the OEM segment is expected to dominate the market with a market share of 91.65% and is expected to reach USD 2,798,849.79 thousand by 2030 growing with the CAGR of 18.8% in the forecast period of 2023 to 2030.
