The era of technology brings new technologies in front of us humans, which helps the world leaders to build amazing projects and gain insightful knowledge. Individuals are now very much dependent on technology and they are now able to transform themselves in a way they want. The question here arises is that how quickly can these personality traits be modified. Not only this, the researchers have analyzed some serious after affects by the modification of personality. An international research team has shown that the use of smartphone apps can lead to desired personality changes within three months and after this daily intervention, the changes are easily noticeable. These changes can do some serious and permanent changes. There are many personality traits which can be effortlessly change and they are known as conscientiousness or sociability. People in society gradually adapt to the demands of society and environment but changes in individual usually take place at a very slow rate.
The reason for this change happening due to apps was tough to determine but many researchers were able to find out the problem behind it and these researchers are from the University of Zurich, St. Galen, Brandeis, Illinois and ETH Zurich. They have now cross checked, whether it is really happening or not with a special digital intervention. In their study there were many volunteers and it was estimated that there was around 1500 participants who were provided with a very specially developed smartphone app. They were given this application for three months and then the assessment was done to test if there was any change in their personality or not.
In the test, the five major personality traits of openness, conscientiousness, sociability (extraversion), considerateness (agreeableness), and emotional vulnerability (neuroticism) were examined. The app included elements of knowledge transfer, behavioral and resource activation, self-reflection, and feedback on progress. All communication with the digital coach and companion (a chat bot) took place virtually. The chat bot supported the participants on a daily basis to help them make the desired changes. The majority of participants said that they wanted to reduce their emotional vulnerability, increase their conscientiousness, or increase their extraversion. Those who participated in the intervention for more than three months reported greater success in achieving their change goals than the control group who took part for only two months.
