Middle Ground between Cloud and Data Centers: Combination of Hybrid Cloud and Colocation of Data Centers?

Industries from different domains of the world are undertaking a greater volume of investments to invigorate their IT infrastructures; and this expenditure has given rise to the need for deciding where to invest these funds and which category of services will provide them with the largest collective benefits. Now-a-days, organizations from these industries are working with significant volumes of data which is making it difficult for them to utilize their conventional enterprise-based IT infrastructures.

Appropriate storage and computing infrastructure is a mandate for organizations offering them with multiple variants of could computing and data centers. Investment in the hybrid cloud infrastructure is along with the combination of public and private cloud services is currently trending in the market.

Hybrid cloud is a combination of the best features of public and private cloud solutions generating a hybrid working environment for organizations. These features of each cloud computing model are connected to an organization providing a wide-area of network and ensuring that the two must work in tandem. This adoption of technology ensures that an organization can allocate its investment in order to gain the best possible features without compensating on the benefits of an individual cloud model. This method would be beneficial for organizations dealing in varying dimensions of business operations & organizational data, including the data which can be delivered to the third party service providers and few which they need to keep secured in their own organization. This flexibility tends to provide an enhanced implementation of application and specialized services providing refined connection between the service providers and an organization’s IT environment.

This may seem the best option still its contradictory as the availability of investing into a data center is giving rise to major issues for our modern organization where the choice is between the cloud or data centers.  Another milestone in technology which is simplifying the pressure of deciding which one is best option is the combination of data centers and cloud, more specifically colocation of data centers with hybrid cloud.

To summarize and stimulate the understanding of colocation of data centers, it is the process of renting physical infrastructure such as office space, along with network connectivity and other associated components of an already established data center and combining an organization’s own mini data center inside this physical environment. It helps them in taking advantage of the services already existing in the established data center, while having to attain these services from their providers. They can indirectly utilize them by outsourcing the management, maintenance and connectivity of their data centers to collocation providers who provide office space, physical security, cooling services, networking, maintenance and energy requirements. This process enables organizations to reap the benefits of a data center facility without making a huge expenditure for its operation.

This combination essentially means constructing the environment for a private cloud server and outsourcing this to a specialized colocation provider which will be responsible for its consistent connectivity, maintenance and management as hybrid cloud environments require high-performing consistent connectivity ensuring that their performances are not affected negatively.

Conclusion

To put into perspective, there isn’t a need to choose either of the two services when it comes to cloud or data centers. Rather, organizations and IT providers should focus on greater partnerships for the advancement of service quality making sure that constant innovations are taking place and the growth of IT industry is not halted due to the redundancy of operations. These solutions are highly effective for organizations coming under the small & medium-sized category as it provides them with high-performing features that hybrid cloud and colocation of data center provides which would have been restricted, if the choice was to be made between  private/public cloud or data centers. While for larger enterprises, integration of colocation of data center can enhance their productivity and cost-effectiveness to their existing hybrid cloud infrastructures as it shifts their infrastructure off-site helping them to focus solely on their core business operations.
